Jamaican LGBT rights group J-FLAG produced this PSA starring former Miss World and Miss Jamaica pageant queen Christine Straw and her gay brother, Matthew, for television. But unfortunately, supposedly due to pressure by Christian groups on the island, the country's leading network rejected the ad for being "too controversial." Despite being, as one commentator called her, the youngest, the shortest and the most inexperienced in her field, twenty-one-year-old Shelly Ann Fraser of Jamaica won the gold medal in the 100 meter race on Sunday. She proceeded to bounce up and down on the track with sheer glee! In a post-race interview, Fraser, whose brace face smile is, frankly, adorable, said, "Well, honestly, most people weren't expecting me to come out here and do something… So with that in mind, it was not do or die. "Nichole" is a 29-year-old lesbian from Jamaica who, in an extremely rare move, has been spared deportation by a U.S. immigration judge following two drug convictions because of the extremely hostile climate for gay people in Jamaica. She has to report back to authorities in 3 months regarding her status. While lesbian acts are not technically illegal under Jamaica's rather specific anti-sodomy laws, there is enough homophobic violence to go around for both lesbians and gay men. It is categorically untrue that L'Oreal Paris altered Ms Knowles' features or skin tone in the campaign for Feria hair color." But, as Vanessa Walters writes in the Guardian, Beyoncé's "trademark has been very long blonde hair extensions and yes, looking as light as possible. Beyond her endorsements, as a solo artist she has sold many millions of albums and singles worldwide, dwarfing the solo earnings of other members of the Grammy-winning girl group Destiny's Child, who incidentally are much darker."
