J.J. Abrams Agrees That His Comment About Women and Star Wars Was 'Stupid'

Latest

J.J. Abrams is wisely backtracking on a comment he made last week about Star Wars and its female fanbase while promoting The Force Awakens.

During a Good Morning America appearance, the director stated that the franchise “was always a boys’ thing” and that he hoped the latest version is “a movie that mothers could take their daughters to, as well.”

When asked about this during a Twitter Q&A with the Star Wars cast on Friday, Abrams followed up acknowledging that he’d said something “stupid” in a moment of exhaustion.

The director also wrote: “I hope girls and women see themselves in Rey (and not Phasma)!”
