Following public outcry over the hairstyle standards for black women in the Army, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel told lawmakers each of the services will review the policy and consider possible changes. Hagel sent a letter to lawmakers on Tuesday which stated the purpose of the review is "to ensure standards are fair and respectful of our diverse force, while also meeting our military services' requirements....After a thorough review of the Service recommendations, I will make whatever appropriate adjustments to DOD policy are necessary."
