This will shock you, but apparently some women get jobs at hedge funds solely on the basis that they are hot. "You meet these bimbos and they say, ‘Oh, I work at a hedge fund,' and you think, What?!?" one "head of an investment bank who pals around with high net worth investors" tells W Magazine. "And then you realize, Oh, this is, like, the PR girl. And it's a wildly successful strategy." Yeah, sure, until the only women working on Wall Street are brainless bimbos because all the smart women have been driven away by the financial sector's overpowering, self-destructive atmosphere of misogyny…oh wait. Anyway, the story — while it's annoyingly absent of internal memos detailing illegal hiring practices or, for that matter, pictures of any of these hedge fund hos — reminded me how, no matter which way the economy blows, the American workforce, since the days of flight attendants in hot pants, has always found a place - and a visa! — for a sufficiently hot girl. Why can't more rich people be like Cindy McCain? Not with the strumpet makeup, I mean, but with the white guilt? Today a LA Times profile made us officially decide to like Cindy, who grew up a rich spoiled rodeo queen cheerleader in Phoenix and then one day went on a scuba trip and came back a crying, caring compassionate woman who sometimes took pills to ease the psychic pain. Okay, so I like Cindy. I get her, I think. I also get Barry Marx Obama and Michelle and their "elitism and all of that." I get Pennsylvanians and why they are bitter. But here's what I don't get: what do the world's 50 top hedge fund managers need with the collected $29 billion they made last year? Are they saving up to buy the Great Wall or the Vatican or something? (Can you even securitize the Vatican?) And how is it they were so smart in a year that everyone at Merrill Lynch who didn't get demoted was soooo...goddamn...stupid. Just testosterone? Single minority women are big victims of the subprime mortgage meltdown, reports the New York Times today. But not one single minority woman, notes the Journal! Remember Mei Sze Chan? She was single and lonely, but in the beginnings of the mortgage crisis she met a man in the Hamptons named Jeff Greene, they hit it off, and in November they finally wed at their 27-acre 24-car garage Beverly Hills estate in a wedding featuring Oliver Stone and Mike Tyson. (He told Vows "I just wish I had met Mei Sze 20 years ago" — when she was 12! LoL.) So just how did Jeff Greene get so rich?
