Here's a first look at Girls, the Judd Apatow-produced series from HBO about women in their 20s trying to make it in New York City. While you're busy trying to decide if this falls more into the "Revamped Sex & The City" or "What I Thought MTV's Awkward Was Going To Be" category, let me give you a few more details. The show stars Lena Dunham (of Tiny Furniture fame) as our dry, lovable protagonist and Jemima Kirke and Allison Williams (daughter of Brian Williams, FYI) as her two besties. From this short preview, we're not entirely sure that Apatow will have redeemed himself on the matter of his track record with female characters, or whether Dunham actually will turn into the "voice of a generation." Last night's episode of True Blood saw Antonia Gavilán of Logroño declaring, "I am returned." She has taken over Marnie's body, and we have no idea where Marnie's poor soul is — maybe on a nice vacation in some kind of tropical paradise? In any case, four hundred years ago, Antonia was tortured, raped and burned at the stake by vampires. She is still pretty upset about it. And she's now found a kindred spirit in Tara, who was attacked by Pam, then broke up with her girlfriend and cried her eyes out. Misery loves company, and the downtrodden love revenge, and as Antonia told Tara, "we are alike." Antonia drafted Tara to help her destroy all vampires by forming a witchy circle, controlling each vamp and sending them into the sun. Some vamps — Eric, Pam, Bill — managed to bind themselves in silver so they would not die. But at the end of the ep, it certainly looked like poor babyvamp Jessica opened the doors of the mansion and let the sunshine in. Damn. More »

Last night on True Blood, the best scene by far was the one with a double dose of naked supernatural hottie. Sookie enlisted Alcide to help her track down Eric, who'd gotten drunk on fairy blood and was cavorting and frolicking through the forest as the inebriated are wont to do. They found him splashing about in a lake, and he was supposed to be nude, but eagle-eyed pervs could tell he was wearing what's known in the biz as a "sock." Also something the truly observant may have noticed: Sookie is in a shot and Wolf-Form Alcide is in a shot, but it doesn't seem like Anna Paquin and the wolf were actually next to each other. Watch carefully and you'll see that those are probably someone else's legs — like the trainer — near the yellow-eyed creature. More »

After a sluggish beginning, True Blood is back to being the twisty-turny, disquieting freakshow we know and love. One of the best lines last night was when Andy Bellefleur, all keyed up and junkied out, said, "God grant me the serenity to -- fuck it." Julianne Moore was supposed to be in The Special Relationship, an HBO film in which Dennis Quaid played Bill Clinton and Michael Sheen played Tony Blair. Moore had to drop out, due to scheduling conflicts, and Hope Davis ended up being HRC. But the folks at BlackBook found this image of Moore as Hillary in the portfolio of a makeup artist. After being known—and ridiculed—for years as "Skinemax," due to its late-night adult programming of soft-core series like Co-ed Confidential and Bikini Frankenstein, HBO has been rehabbing the rep of its sister channel Cinemax in an effort to make it more profitable. The 30-year-old channel will now shift its focus away from what it's best known for (smut sans penetration) and onto creating its first-ever lineup of prime-time series: A shoot-em-up called Strike Back and a serialized-version of The Transporter, with the film's original star Jason Statham.
