Have any of you read The Road? I am strangely drawn to it. About to crawl into the bath and read more, which makes me feel guilty. Them being super dirty and all.

@Penny: I read it while at Subway today. I always read while eating, and I feel soooooo bad for it.

Also, my friend refuses to read it because she doesn't like the punctuation structure. :/ It saddens me.

@Penny: The Road is very much of the contemporary American depressive tradition. I find it hard to stomach after a while.

@Penny: Ha -- what a jolly holiday read!

Anyway, it's one of my favorite books (and I say this as someone with decidedly "meh" feelings about McCarthy's other work [though Blood Meridian was truly epic, if not as compelling and universal as The Road]). It was impossible for me to put down.

My boyfriend liked it until the end. When you get there, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the family's fate. Personally, I thought it was perfect.

@Penny: I read it during a bad time, and it really sent me into a funk, I mean, I was horribly depressed for a while after reading that damn book. It doesn't help that my husband is constantly making preparations for the end of civilization.
