- Designer John Varvatos has bought the space formerly occupied by rock club CBGB's to open a new store. He's the one who designs clothes for Converse, which is that super-hip iconoclastic footwear brand owned by Nike, and... Move to North Korea if you hate capitalism so much! [Fashion Week Daily]

- Stella McCartney is doing a denim line with Notify jeans. Will she design a pair with one leg, too? Because that would be sick and distasteful and awesome. [Vogue UK]
- Designer Zac Posen's mom Susan on her recent trip to Tokyo: "My guide was like, 'Shall we eat Italian tonight?' And I said, 'Please! You can get Italian anywhere.' Japanese food three times a day? Heaven!" [Fashion Week Daily]

- OMG! Mariah Carey sang "Hero" at the Glamour Woman of the Year awards?! We would rather hear Mariah sing "Hero" (our favorite song in, what, 1993?) than win an award any day. [Fashion Week Daily]

Vahina Giocante??! Hoooly mother.
ahhh Hero, sang at every 6th grade graduation in the 90's
Almost as bad as people who expect to eat just American food when they travel. I would eat Japanese 3 times daily at home if I could. Yum!
vahina is gorgeous.
That "Dr. 90210" guy makes me sick. He is such a gross, fakey, fame whore!
I saw Dr. 90210's "shapewear" in a magazine and was shocked because I didn't think he could creep me out anymore, but he did. He is soooo creepy. And it seems like shapewear conflicts with the surgical solutions he's always offering up. Of course it justs supports my theory of his misogyny. All women need improvement on their surgical improvments to come closer to his ideal standards. Ugh.
"I think it has something to do with fashion."
Oh, MJ, you're such a bitch. I love it.
Actually, eating non-Japanese food here in Japan is just as different an experience- they do things to foreign food that are so out there sometimes you might as well be eating Japanese food. They basically make it fit the Japanese palette. Ever had spaghetti soup? Or octopus pizza? Pizza with entire little sausages on them with weird bacon? Its amazing.
@Leiakat: The food and the warmed toilet seats were some of my favorite things about Japan.
@ashuri2: You are so right. And what the Japanese do to Western desserts! Ice-cream parfaits... cream puffs... yummm.
@BiscuitDoughJones: warmed tiolet seats? I think that would make me nervous something was on them. ...but then I am a germ phob.
@kgibbs: SO TRUE! We sang it at mine.
@ashuri2: They put octopus on salads in the Rome McDonalds...the story on my MIL freak out is legendary.
That is true. Chinese food in England was an experience for me.
@ashuri2: Too true. If I had never been to a McDonald's in Sweden, I would never have known that you can get couscous there. And I would have had to eat a lot of fermented herring.
I hope her name is pronounced VA-HEE-NA, like vagina in spanish.
please please please.
@Leiakat: Japan is so clean compared to most places in the US, I just didn't even think about that stuff there. It's just like anything- wash your hands a lot & you'll be ok.
@Leiakat: OMG. Chinese food in England was quite memorably the worst meal of my life.
Japanese Mc Donalds is awesome. I had to have the teriyaki burger twice, it was so good.
Wait! Converse is super-hip and iconoclastic? SCORE! Finally I am all "with it".
So glad my name isn't Vahina Giocante...reminds me of the Austin Powers movie with Alotta Fagina.
My mom called me last night to talk about Barbara Walters hating on
I-Lean...my mom does not like Not-Linda and thinks shes just acting ugly and needs to shut up and take the money.
@BAngieB: omg, your mom is adorable.
One of my favorite things about international travel is that American food tastes sooooo good when you get back. But all the English Chinese food was good, but I learned long ago you only eat ethnic cuisine in England. But avoid the tacos in France.
@foree: No, my mom is an Arkansas mess, in a good way.
@BAngieB: i need a translator for your clever southern sayings, or at least a southern english to northeast english dictionary. im always lost.
@effeteaesthete: OMG don't even get me started on the sweets and desserts here! I eat waaay more bad stuff here than in the U.S.
The Japanese McDonalds here is delish, but some of the other fast food places....i mean, salmon paste spagetthi, and seaweed chicken burgers? wha...? There are a lot of things you have to *really* like to be able to eat Western food in Japan. i.e. mayo, raw egg, shrimp, seaweed/fish flakes. The first three I've seen on EVERYTHING you can possibly think of at some point.
If I ever won the lottery, I would pay Vincent d'Onofrio to be my sex-toy. And I would hire a Japanese chef to make me Japanese food all. The. TIME. Oh, except for the French pastry chef who would be in charge of dessert.
@leMaldeTete: The name (fabulous, btw) immediately makes me think of Sabado Gigante!, the variety show(?)on Univision/Telemundo. Consequently, I am guessing this woman has giant ladyparts.
@CatOTO:i used to be obsessed with d'onofrio. i cant explain it.
@foree: Wait a minute...why did I think you were from Arkansas?
This is off-topic, but Stella McCartney is my girl. I hate my stepmom too and if I had a platform from which to proclaim it, I totally would. Wait, I kind of just did. Hooray!
i remember after 9/11 and mariah sang "hero" to a bunch of firemen and tears came to my eyes.
yea, i'm a pussy.
@BAngieB: i dunno. im from philly, but i live in idaho now.
@foree: Good Lord, you're a Yankee? Bless your heart.
@Sharli:
But did you see the huge house he just bought? He's got to pay his mortgage somehow!
CBGB has nothing to do with the John Varvatos store. They just leased that space until they closed. That their ex-landlord is now renting to John Varvatos hardly constitutes 'selling out' on their part. Anyway, wasn't this item on Gawker about a month ago?
@ashuri2: What I loved about food in Japan was all the food sculpture! Why use a menu when you can recreate what the dish will look like out of plastic and put it in the window? Genius!
