Goth was all dark and bloody, but post-Goth? That would be Kegadoru, or "injured idol," a new Tokyo fetish-fashion craze. Girls wrap their heads and bodies in bandages — and eyepatches — for that "damaged doll" look some guys apparently love. (Guys who liked the torture porn film Hostel, perhaps?) White bandages are for "virginal grace" while black ones mean "wickedness." Look for Gwen Stefani in a full body cast any day now. [BoingBoing]

Wow. Apparently everything ever can be turned into a fetish. Next up: Girls picking their nose! Live! Webcam! So hot! Barely legal ladies digging for gold! What will the find? Oh that's such a good one.
Excuse me. I think I need another cold shower.
Wow, there's a Law and Order SVU episode just waiting to happen.
sometimes i poke myself in the eye with something sharp so i know that i can feel pretty once i'm all patched up.
Ooh. I hope "Poe-Goth" comes into fashion. That way we can all draw lines of red dripping from our mouths and wail, "I've got the consumption! The consumption!"
This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I'm disappointed in you, Japanese Girls. You are usually 10 times super awesome fantasic better than this.
Ahh.. damn.. they are so copying my idea. I used to wear a straight-jacket to garner sympathy from people and thus get them to have sex with me.
(kidding)
@hortense: Fantastic too. I just punched myself in the face for making a typo, and then plastered a bandage over it. So not only am I sorry, but I'm stylish, too.
There's a Munchausen By Proxy joke in here somewhere...
i did this when i was 3 yrs old,id rollerskate, pretend to fall down and then pretend to need a band aid every 2 seconds of the day..didnt know it was a fetish.@DorothyZbornak: definitely!!
So this is what those Hedgehogs from yesterday were up to. So cutting edge.
I also used to wear the metal finger-casts like my finger was broken. I thought they were soo cool.
(not kidding)
God, the Japanese all have the most ridiculous fashions. It's like two thousand years of insanely repressive culture just kind of cracked open, and milennia of FUCKING INSANE just started pouring out.
I'm assuming this stemmed from a sub-culture that developed in Japan a little over a year ago. It became fashionable there to attempt suicide. It was envied among your peers if you could finish yourself off...And it apparantly stemmed from the U.S influence of cutting and such.
@DorothyZbornak: Either that or a CSI
@hatepaperdoll: cant stop laughing
@meaghan2k: If this takes off I am SO starting a website. I LOVE picking my nose!
@tashatakeadive: Um, no. It came from the hundreds-of-years-old Japanese Samurai tradition of Suppuku. Suicide has ALWAYS been an honor thing in Japan.
@hatepaperdoll: Tiggywinkles Couture, love.
@ineffable.me: I'm telling you. Picking your nose and trimming your toenails. So hot. So sexy. So naughty.
@hortense: Ha hahahaha!
let's see how many stereotypes we can reinforce today..
This is gross and hilarious. And it makes me kind of scared of Japan. Which sucks because I was about to move there after seeing this: [uk.reuters.com]
But now, not so much.
@hortense: it IS tiggywinkles couture!!
@meaghan2k: I'm not going to be the one to Google it, but I would bet that such a site exists. The depravity of the interweb knows no bounds.
@mcemmie: Japan sort of scares me too.. ever since i saw anime porn involving a spider and a vagina I haven't really wanted to go there..
Maybe headgear that nerdy kids (like me) used to have to wear with their braces will be the next big thing. If so, my pre-teen wish will have been granted.
@pferde_schwanz: Ok, I suppose I was asking for that one. But srsly, I'm more inclined to believe that the suicide thing has more to do with a traditional Japanese value than "the US influence of cutting". Cause really, what can angry, teenage girls in the US cutting themselves influence anyone to do except, I dunno, laugh?
Any guy who would find this a turn-on has massive issues. Do they cruise the hospitals looking for dates, then dump them when they're better?
@BiscuitDoughJones: I'm not talking abotu it as an honor thing, but there's ben a huge pike in teengae suicide and materials marketed to them to glamourize it.
Yeah, me no likey hospitals. Me no likey injured women.
@tashatakeadive: Sorry for the previous grammar...it's early
This has been going on for years. Boing boing is WAAAAY behind the times.
@BiscuitDoughJones: yo, i wasn't referring to your comment, which i pretty much agree with, but to the post itself - so, japan and hilarious fetishes.
This reminds me of all those pix I've seen of people looking like they just got beat up on myspace. (I'm pretty sure almost all of them are fake, but I'm not very bright, so what do I know...)
There is already a whole subset of amputee porn on the internet, so this doesn't really surprise me. (NO I am not into it, I knew people in high school who were fascinated by it and tried to trick people into looking at it every time they got near a computer.)
I don't know, this eye bandage I'm wearing totally makes my nose look smaller.
@foree: I never even bothered faking an injury. I would just get into the cabinet and start slapping on band-aids. The real injuries would come when I tried to take them off.
I've been hearing about this broken doll fetish for years (yeah, in gender study classes, but whatever). I see it as kind of being in the same tradition as a lot of the aesthetics in japanese culture that fetishize the mistreatment of women. Japanese women are frequently portrayed to be incapacitated in some way. But really, it's not all that dissimilar to bondage and maybe it is just a way of taking the classic nurse/patient fetish to a whole new level.
As someone who has recently undergone major surgery, I can assure you that there is nothing sensual or alluring or intriguing about bandages, blood, stitches, gauze pads, angry red scars, hypodermic needles, blood pressure cuffs, et cetera.
This is beyond weird and only confirms why I prefer Chinese women to Japanese.
did jezebel not already post about this a few months back? cuz i've read about this and i could have sworn it was on this site.
ALSO, eve wore an eyepatch in the "rich girl" video, so...connected?!
@foree: My six year old niece wore a sling on her completely normal arm for all of Thanksgiving, and her friend is OBSESSED with wheelchairs. Little kids are so crazy!
@Metro99: um ew
@dchan: yeah I would say it accesses a lot of common sexual themes, just in a slightly different way - like having/being a knight in shining armor, being a captive, having limited physical abilities, being in someone else's control, assuming control over someone else etc.
hello from fashion week in kyoto where black eyes are the new black!
does this hello kitty tourniquet make my butt look big?
@Metro99: I think your bandages might be a little too tight. They're making you sound like a bigot. So, you know, loosen them or something.
@meaghan2k: Um, Welcome to Teh Internets.

NSFW, obvs.
@Metro99: Asian fetish!
@meaghan2k: I think I need another golden shower...
So, hospitals are like the new strip joints!
Honestly, the Japanese can no longer shock me with their weird fashions and/or fetishes.
I knew this fucking wheelchair would come into style. Perseverance, baby!
I give up. I am never going to understand men.
@Metro99: Creepy. Pretty much as creepy as this fashion/fetish.
Can some Japanese expert explain how these over-the-top fashion/costume fetishes thrive over there? Is it somehow more acceptable to wear crazy clothes day-to-day, or is this a complete rebellion thing?
@dingosmom1: Hah!
Do bruises, scars and cuts have the same effect? Or must they be covered?
And those nose picking porn sites are fucking ridiculous.
Not new. Google "Broken Dolls" - this is a slight variation on that theme.
sigh. "broken dolls, japan, medical fetish." You have to be so specific on google sometimes.
