'Teen Vogue' Commenters: Friends, Or Frenemies?

prettywhenyouseebones.jpgWe've said this before, but sometimes we just don't know what to make of Teen Vogue and its readers, particularly when it comes to the magazine's interns, who are both the subjects of a uniquely bad reality television show and the ostensible writers of a generically-bad blog called "Behind the Seams". We'd say all the interns offend us as much as Emily Weiss, does, but only half of them actually do. (Cynthia!) And, actually it's the comments posted by readers that really get us. Like, Are they for real? (And therefore, this afternoon's sign of the apocalypse?) Or are they sly, but kinda poorly-executed jokes? Here, verbatim, are some of our favorite head-scratchers from the Teen Vogue website from today:

omg you are so fashion forward! i see you on misshapes site for party you look so hot! teach me your styles! are you friends with cory kennedy????
And:
I am so enchanted by the whole fashion and magazine thing!
And:
That was an incredibly well written article you're the total package: beauty and brains...
And:
emily you are truly an amazing intern. i am in complete awe of you and literally just want to be you!
And then this mindfuck, directed specifically at intern Diana:
wow! Diana, you are such a cutie pie! i bet u are an amazing intern at teenvogue! congratulations! if Barbie had an internship, i bet she would have chosen your job because it's every girl's dream! she might have worn a burberry trench to her interview, as well. :)

  • Ok, I totally dig fashion, hollywood, celeb culture, etc but it's not all there is to the world. I shudder at the teenagers in this country. No wonder drug use is on the rise in the over 40's set.

  • The main thing that's creeping me out here is my unshakeable feeling that the comment directed at Diana was actually posted by a single, balding, thirty-eight year old male.

  • Two of those comments set off Chris Hansen's Molo Detector.

  • It's clearly the interns who are writing the comments themselves.

(I've seen "keep the message boards flowing" and such as too many editorial internship "duties" and its not unheard of for magazines to even make up their own reader mail!)

  • I think the guys responsible for the "weekly World News" write these comments on their lunch break. No-one's really that desperate to be an unpaid intern, are they?

    ...are they?

  • OK, I was a fashion-obsessed teen (and later fashion-obsessed fashion editor) but what gets to me is their awestruck worship of INTERNS?? at TEEN VOGUE?? When I was 16 I worshiped Liz Tilberis-era Bazaar, Fabien Baron, Anna, (ok Jane Pratt a little bit), etc... Not fracking interns at a TEEN MAGAZINE. These girls depress me.

  • Because, like, if you were like, an actual fashion editor with a salary you might have to like, do some work and you know, like, have some responsibilities!

Lauren Conrad has duped young girls everywhere into thinking that being an intern is all the fun (clothes! your own photo spread in the magazine!) without much of the work. I think the 'hardest' thing she ever did on The Hills was fly to New York on a red eye (all paid for by Teen Vogue, of course) to deliver a dress for a photo shoot. Oh the horror!

  • @sakade: Yeah, and LC just payed a couple million for a house in Hollywood last month.

Um, you KNOW that didn't come out of no intern's paycheck.

"OMiG! Like, being an intern pays soooo much! I wanna totally be one and get a house like hers!" (And a rilly bad H & M rip-off fashion-line and a TV show and a perfume... )
