It's a commenting-heavy day for Old Kellybones! Been looking at the Coachella lineup and drooling on myself....the fact that Julian Casablancas is there as a solo act has my nether regions acting strangely in response to some long-since-buried high school lust.
I don't understand why I have to send in three first drafts of three major assignments when they're not due until four weeks from now. I'm half-assing the research and the writing because I am pretty insulted as a grad student that I need to turn in a draft. I don't work this way. I do something, I turn it in, I walk away and wash my hands of it. This is my creative process. Deal with it, professors!
@Alys Brangwin has a huge talent: I bet you it has a lot to do with making sure students aren't procrastinating, but it is a little sad that they feel it necessary for grad students. I mean, at what point do you become an autonomous adult if not post-BA??
Also, I say that as someone who got two degrees without one all-nighter. Working ahead makes me feel calm and in control. Maybe I'm in the minority on that?
@JerseyGrrrl: I usually work ahead, but I do not write drafts. I research ahead of time, read what I need to read, and when it is time to write, I simply let it all out. I got to be excellent at cranking out five to six pages in about two hours in my senior year of undergrad, and I am on my way to being able to do it again in grad school. I just do not like being subjected to the will of other people when I am 24 years old. This is my creative process, not theirs!
Oh and I do not do all-nighters either, not since I was a freshman in college. #groupthinkReply
I just got an update from Bloodwyn. Last night, I sent her the link about how PISSED we were and how much we LOVE her. This morning she sent me an email saying how much it meant to see the support.
Does Hortense realize her age? Because Bloodwyn's comments gave me hope for a generation that the media wants to write off as spoiled and unmotivated.
And these most awesome jezzie young'uns need mentoring and support. That's what good feminists do, we nurture the next generation of feminists.

I'm a few years older than her and I attend a super liberal, left-wing university and I STILL have to deal with being shamed for identifying as a feminist. I'm appalled that the opportunity to welcome somebody as young, well-spoken, engaging and fun as Bloodwyn into a the Jezebel community was squashed because of one comment. Especially given that she is a regular commenter.

@bonita applebum: I agree. This site offers an opportunity for all generations of women to come together - agree and/or disagree with eachother - and learn from one another.
Short of out-and-out "flaming" or "trolling" I'm really against banning anyone.
But, we all knew, when we started to participate here, that we do not make the rules.

So So stabby, according to the Daily Telegraph La Gaga was so fat (eyeroll) on the paparazzi video shoot A skars made it obvious through eyerolling and such that he was not enthused about kissing her.
@Alohamaid: I'm hoping that article is pure bullshit because A.) Did they even see the Bad Romance video? Girl is tiny! and B.) Even if she wasn't I'm hoping that as a working actor A Skars would be professional enough to not be a dick about doing his job.
I do not want to take this time to discuss the fact that I am still Facebook friends with my very jerky ex, or that I periodically wind up on his profile. I will freely admit that this is sad, and shows that I yet have some things to work on. Instead, I am going to share my major validation for the day...that a total stranger in another country completely pegged him in one brief comment. I love this strange man, and I kinda want to send him a thank you for seeing this and calling him out. Copied comment below (sic):

@VooDooDollhouse: There is nothing quite as sweet as vindication. For as long as I can remember, I have been the person who has recognized sketchy characters long before anyone else. People generally catch up, but the time between, when people say to you "Oh you're oversensitive/too judgmental/imagining things" is super annoying. I'm glad you have independent confirmation - it's a great feeling.
@bonita applebum: It's kind of awesome. His profile pic shows him in a kilt, and I keep imagining it in the tones of a gruff Scotsman.
On a different note, I'm going to jack my own thread for a moment and ask a question about the mix tape extravaganza...is there a general theme, or is it set by the individual making the mix? We used to do a project like this at my old job, and center it around an instrument or specific band. The best one we ever did was the Cowbell project...it's been 3 years, and I still guard that cd with my life.

I tried not to dictate any guidelines on the mixtape, you get better results when you let people do their thing, IMO.
For me, I got Hannahhan, a 19 year old sweetie pie back east. I am going to make a mix to ignite her inner badass and let her know just how fucking AWESOME I think she is. I know she's not a hip hop head, so I am going to go out of my genre of choice.
My advice would be either pick a theme and go with it. Or make a mix tape that pleases you, with all your favs. There's a good chance you'll turn your partner on to some new stuff and you will have a mix that you will love and probably want to share with your homies.
Also, if you need more guidance, ask them. What do you like? Where you at? You need something to bring you up or chill you out. Sometime parameters really help you take that first step.
Has anyone used chatroulette? Or omegle for that matter? Both are one-on-one chats with strangers from across the world. The former uses webcams and the other is just text.
Valentine's Day is coming, and I was wondering what other Jezebels think about it.
For me, it's a celebration of all kinds of love--love for lovers, friends, family, pets, chocolates. My best friend and I agreed to be each other's Valentines since we're both currently single and fabulous. :)
I have (female) friends who believe that it celebrates romantic love and nothing else.
What's your take?

@this_charming_one: I love Valentine's Day, and the way I see it, this is the first time in years I'm going to be able to enjoy it properly. I just ended a 4-yr relationship a few months ago, and those V-days were so disappointing that I'm glad I can celebrate it to the fullest without worrying about being disappointed.
I think it's about celebrating love in all forms- platonic, romantic, unrequited, prospective, whatever. I'm celebrating it with friends, and I'm also celebrating being open to new love- whatever shape it may take when it next hits me.
I'm having a hard time with Valentine's Day this year because this is the first time I've been really happily single on it and I really don't want to be construed as anything but. I'm not bitter, I don't want a boyfriend, and I'm not angry or sad about people who are in happy relationships. Mainly what I feel about Valentine's Day this year is bored. I'm not going to get to hang out with my best friend because she'll be with her fiance, there won't be anything good on television because it's a Sunday, my FWB will be out of town so I won't get to get laid, it'll just be... boring. But I feel like if I say that or anything else about Valentine's people will think I'm a Bitter Lonely Single, and I'm just not. It's a good thing it falls right on Mardi Gras this year so there will actually be other things to do this weekend.

Mr. B and I don't celebrate it. But then again, we are cynics by nature, and refuse to engage in fruitless, pointless spending in what is usually consumables.
Also, we give each other little stuff all throughout the year - why the heck should we be that particular day too? And big, expensive stuff is bought by both after thorough brand/model/store/price search and discussion - so not much surprises on that side either.
So today is the last day to drop our ballot in the mail. My inner slacker has reared her ugly head, so it looks like I'm taking mine ballot straight to the po today.
But it occurs to me how ass backward this system is. Schools have to get a super majority to get the funding they are in DIRE need of to educate OUR children.
It seems the schools should be given carte blanche to do what they gotta do. Let's take the war to the voters and require they get a supermajority in order to get their funding for still more destruction.
@bonita applebum: I have never understood why WA requires a supermajority to pass school funding. All of our elections are 50% +1 except for tax things. Stupid. If the majority thinks that something is worth funding, then it should be funded.
Whenever I get depressed about living in the U.S., I daydream about living in Canada (more specifically, Vancouver or Montreal). Yes, I am one of those Americans who threatens to move to Canada every month, why do you ask?
@ClementinedeWinter: I'd love to live in either of those cities. You definitely aren't alone in that regard...the only thing that keeps me from doing it is the thought of more snow than I can handle.
