After three and a half years at Jezebel, this is my final post. In that time, I wrote 5,990 posts, falling just 10 short of winning a kayak. My departure is bittersweet. On the one hand, I'm excited to stop living like a vampire, waking up to emails detailing how wrong I am about absolutely everything (Note to self: Peanuts are not nuts, and I've been way too hard on Beyoncé), and spending a significant chunk of the day thinking about how the world dumps on the womenfolk. On the other hand, Jezebel has taken me from being a grad student nervous to share her thoughts with thousands of people to an editor who posts 12 times a day on a site read by millions. It's hard to think of another place where I'd be given the freedom to say (pretty much) whatever I want, and the next time I see a women's magazine explaining how to take a shower, or a Republican presidential candidate explaining why the rights of people with no organs matter more than those with ovaries, I'm sure I'll miss being able to share it with Jezebel readers. Today is my last day at Jezebel. It's been both an honor and a pleasure: an honor to work with such a talented staff of inspiring ladies, and a pleasure to be able to get paid to do the cover the television and junk I watch on an everyday basis. I want to thank you all for viewing my TV highlights, nostalgic videos, celebrity tweets, and the rest of the pop culture trash I so enjoy. But even more-so, thank you for indulging me in the silly stuff, like my schoolgirl crush on Ryan Gosling, .gifs of Nancy Grace's boobs, and my excitement about old Nickeoldeon shows returning to TV. With his normally cluttered desk wiped clean and his hair slicked back—his eyebrows, however, roamed free—curmudgeonly commentator Andy Rooney signed off from 60 Minutes tonight. In his final show-ending segment, the 92-year-old said he is and will always be a writer before anything else, apologized for the (very few) times he's been wrong, and reminded us that we should never, ever approach him in a restaurant. We love our crazy cat ladies around here, and 77-year-old Italian artist Luciana Matalon certainly fits the bill, as she adored her 15-year-old kitty so much, that when Sky died, Matalon placed a full-page ad in national newspaper Corriere della Sera. The ad featured a poem she'd written about the fabulous feline — lines like "Listen to the great silence of the universe/The world is extinguished." Matalon also added: "I will soon be with you." And: "We'll never leave each other ever again." The ad may have cost a lot (it's unclear how much) but Matalon is quoted as saying, "My profound feelings are beyond financial measure." More »

This is the end of the road for Natalie Portman's vegan shoe line, which launched in February. Parent company Té Casan closed up shop for good last month, and Portman's critter-friendly footwear concept, unfortunately, was also shut down. Will she try again somewhere else, or abandon hope?
