Meet the GaliGirls, "Jewish Dolls for Jewish Girls," which clearly owe a lot to the goyim over at American Girl. GaliGirls seeks to "impart knowledge about Jewish heritage, Jewish tradition, Jewish values, and Jewish family." As with AGs, you can customize the coloring of a generic doll -$65 - who comes modestly attired and with her very own Hebrew and English name Birth Certificate, Magen-David bracelets and a 10 piece wooden toy Shabbat Kit with Paints and Brush. Then there are the historical GaliGirls, which include shtetl-dweller Miriam Bloom, Reyna Li, a twelve-year-old living in 12th century Kaifeng, and sephardic Shoshonna, of colonial New Amsterdam. Naturally, each doll (in addition to her birth certificate and Shabbat Kit) comes with a book. Shoshonna the Native Rose seems to be a blatant ripoff of one of the "Kirsten" books. Well, sorta: "As Shoshana approaches her 12th birthday she develops an unexpected friendship with an Indian girl - a relationship that suddenly threatens to shatter her parents' marriage and plunge Shoshana into terrifying danger, but one that ultimately spreads the light of Judaism where cultures collide."
