She has a PhD in physics and a picture of Catherine the Great in her office. WHY DO WE KNOW WHO ISABELLA BLOW IS AND NOT THIS LADY? Anyway, here's the embarrassing part: our brother is a press officer for the German Embassy. We consulted said brother, who just the other day introduced us to the ingenious German term "tussi," which indicates a young blond who manages to dress equal parts rich and slutty — the German equivalent of the JAP, basically (ahem) (Google image search result displayed at right) — as to whether Forbes' estimation of Angela's power was correct. If women did better on "Top 100" lists maybe the list makers would stop doing all those annoying "50 Women to Watch (And boy are we scraping for 45-50)" lists. Right now women are only 16% of the U.S. Senate, and every time Trader Monthly does its list of 100 Masters of the Universe there are only ever like two females to be found. But there's one list category on which the gender that menstruates is approaching equal representation: Fame whores! The annual Forbes list of Powerful Celebs is out, and there are 34 female entries on it, starting with Oprah (1), Madonna (3), Angelina (14) Tyra (61) and, among others, Michelle Wie, Keira Knightley, Hilary Duff, Kate Moss, Barbara Walters, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Simpson, Jessica Alba and Reese Witherspoon. But we bury the lede! Lindsay Lohan, who came in at 53 last year, dropped off the list entirely, and there is no mention of Paris or Nicole. A bunch of lawmakers are mad about cigarette advertisements in women's magazines. We'd tell you who, but it's the end of the day, and what we have to say is: Pall Mall, you suck. Your yellow cardboard ads annoy the shit out of us. Otherwise, as we sit here scratching our heads wondering how we caught bipolar disorder, we'd like to point out, politicos, that we already KNOW we like cigarettes. Tobacco companies' ads don't sway our opinions in any way, nor do their fancy new female-friendly packages or the awful party RJ Reynolds sponsored with the Misshapes that one time we actually left the house to go to a party. While we're never quite sure whether we need a new brand of mineral foundation or variety of eye cream or formulation of sleep aid or flavor of lip gloss, we know we need cigarettes, at least when we can remember to leave the house, and we furthermore know that the need has nothing to do with advertising, and everything to do with the fact that cigarettes go fucking great with the morning Sumatra.
