Last year, the state of Georgia started running "Stop Child Obesity" ads featuring real-live kids employed as child actors. But, of course, the part the kids are playing — that of an overweight child — mirrors reality. Chloe McSwain, one of the kids on billboards and in commercials, has fantastic self-esteem: "I'm very pretty," she tells CBS News. She admits that she worried what people would think when she took the job (she's called "Martiza" in the ad), but decided it was important to help kids. A noble goal, but does this fat-shaming campaign work? The negative tone and "stop sugarcoating it" message seem to encourage the other-ing of overweight people. More »

These two new ads, which appear on billboards in Albany, New York, are attempting to teach people that eating cheese is hazardous to your health and will make you fat. Luckily, the campaign, which is sponsored by a nonprofit group called Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), fails pretty miserably. The first and most obvious problem is that these ads look crappy and play on the weak and tired premise that fat people are disgusting. But even if they were the most effectively designed ads in the history of time, it wouldn't matter. There aren't enough persuasive health arguments or scare tactics in the world to turn us against cheese!
