Famed '60s Model Twiggy, Now in Her 60s, Becomes L'Oréal UK Ambassador

Latest

In keeping with the trend of fashion and beauty lines revitalizing the careers of former supermodels (and in some cases just plain starting the fashion careers of women of a certain age), L’Oréal Professionnel in the UK has named former ’60s star Twiggy, now 65, the ambassador for their product Majirel High Lift, Shimmering Blonde Service.

According to Twiggy, this job is perfect for her “because my hair colour and my highlights are such an intrinsic part of me since the day that Daniel Galvin OBE gave me my first set of highlights when I was sixteen and a half.”

“I really stopped modelling after the Sixties, but then in the Nineties, Steven Meisel flew me to New York for a spread in Italian Vogue. Listen, I was in my late forties! I like to think that that opened the door for others,” she told Vogue. She’s since done modeling for other brands, like Marks and Spencer in the UK (she has her own line with them) and was the subject of a rather controversially photoshopped ad campaign for Olay.

“Obviously it’s lovely having the young models but there’s a whole group of older women who need representing too, and I am really glad that there are so many of us now that are still working,” she went on to say.

The ads will roll out in February.
