Everyone Looked Bored & Annoyed on the MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet

BeautyStyle

Last night, Rebel Wilson stepped out to host the annual MTV Movie Awards, an event that’s so impossible to take seriously that I honestly cannot imagine putting any effort into getting dressed up for it.

It’s a low-key affair (if a bunch of teenagers screaming at you for three hours can ever be considered low-key), which you think would take the pressure off and allow the celebrities walking the red carpet to relax and have a little bit of fun, but, no, almost everyone played it boring, making a facial expression of apathy the biggest fashion trend of the evening.

Zoe Saldana and Melissa McCarthy both look like they’d rather be getting their teeth pulled. Kerry Washington tries to grin and bear it in a black and mango number that’s business in the front/party in the back.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams seems fun and adorable, Rebel Wilson keeps it comfortable in an Adidas tracksuit and Kim Kardashian gives her unborn child a lesson in smizing.

I like the intentions of Bella Thorne‘s ivory suit, but wish she would have gone full-Kardashian with it and and paired it off with a matching bustier rather than a khaki colored camisole. Ke$ha turned up looking like Ke$ha (THANK GOD) and Maddie Hasson takes a swing at the ’70s with a Bianca Jagger-esque white jumpsuit that would definitely benefit from some louder gold jewelry.

Both Taissa Farmiga and Anna Camp pair tight and white with pink accessories. Karlie Kloss wears a pencil skirt with a sports bra and the perfect haircut.

Anna Camp’s Pitch Perfect costars Hana Mae Lee (more on her hat later), Alexis Knapp and Ester Dean.

The ladies of Jersey Shore (Sammi Giancola, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jenni “JWOWW” Farley) all made an attempt at Hollywood glamour, but ended up looking much more Atlantic City (and we wouldn’t have it any other way).

Like Sammi, a lot of women went with metallic minis. Awkward‘s Ashley Ricards, a midriff-bearing (and smiling) Kylie Minogue and a very Vegas-looking Selena Gomez.

Prints and graphic patterns were a big hit last night. Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & the Olympians) went for muted greys and greens, Kara Hayward (Suzy from Moonrise Kingdom) went for lightning and fuchsia and Bridgit Mendler chose Magic Eye blue.

Quvenzhané Wallis switches from a puppy purse to a cat purse, Alyssa Edwards stands with a very Spring-y RuPaul and Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer are Romy and Michele 2.0.

Chloë Grace Moretz went with a girly variation of the Canadian Tuxedo, but the most important part of her outfit was a pair of gorgeous shoes. Emma Watson looked young and fresh in a cut-out, tye-dyed blue frock.

Speaking of blue, the men of the red carpet were all about playful azure suits: Macklemore, Zachary Quinto and Jezebel boyfriend Utkarsh Ambudkar.

Dapper: Skylar Astin, Taylor Hanson (be still my heart) and Tom Hiddleston.

Dressing down, Snoop wears a red fur training jacket, Jamie Foxx (with daughter Corinne Bishop) remembers Trayvon Martin and Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey has a very nice face.

Headgear! Hana Mae Lee‘s cigarette butt fascinator is ridiculous, but kind of awesome, especially for an event like this. I hope we see this kind of hat at the next big royal wedding. Selena Gomez goes for a faux hawk braid that wouldn’t be out of place in The Warriors. Lauren Miller‘s braid is pretty and neat, but we’ve got to ask: Have we reached peak fishtail?
