Erin Andrews Is Quite Suddenly the New Host of Dancing with the Stars

In a slightly bizarre turn of events, sports reporter Erin Andrews is the new host of Dancing with the Stars, replacing actress Brooke Burke, who was clearly fired. Hmm.

Burke is not the first to feel the burn from ABC’s surprisingly sexy primetime show. DWTS fans were last shocked and appalled when it was announced that the show’s entire band had been fired. While that was seen as a clear cost-cutting measure and an attempt to grab younger viewers, firing Burke and bringing on Andrews will probably only accomplish the latter. “We can confirm that Brooke Burke-Charvet will not be joining us next season,” Conrad Green, the show’s executive producer, said in a statement to ABC News. “She’s been a wonderful part of the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ family since her triumphant win in season seven and will unquestionably be missed by our entire team. We’d like to thank Brooke for her years of great service.”

In a brief clip announcing Andrews as the new host on Good Morning America, GMA hosts celebrated her joining the show, before hastily thanking Burke. “Shout-out to Brooke though,” said Robin Roberts. “Brooke, great job, we love you Brooke,” yelled Lara Spencer, arms held aloft over her head like she herself was a contestant on DWTS.

Andrews was an actual contestant on the show; she finished in third place in 2010. While she hasn’t said anything about how joining the program might affect her job as a sports reporter for Fox Sports, her ousted counterpart has used her Twitter feed to cycle through the five stages of grief that occur after you’ve been fired from your gig hosting a reality TV show.

The cast of this season will be announced next Tuesday on GMA. Bill Nye will sadly not be returning, unless God (or someone Nye believes in) intervenes.
