Another sign that these are tough economic times: Many men are only spending three weeks' salary, rather than the recommended three months' salary on engagement rings. A study by the British home insurance firm LV found that nearly two thirds of grooms buy rings that cost less than a month's paycheck. People losing their jobs and struggling to pay bills is one thing, but to see men ignore a tradition concocted by DeBeers to sell diamonds is truly tragic.
