Emma Stone Says Let’s Quit Judging Our Bodies

The lovely Emma Stone recently spoke to Seventeen about media scrutiny of her body and body-shaming in general.

“It can be really challenging in today’s world for anyone—especially girls and women—to feel good about their bodies,” she told the magazine. “No matter how things look from the outside, we can all be super critical of ourselves and of our image in the mirror.” In her case, she faces scrutiny for being “too skinny”:

I’ve seen articles or comments that have addressed my weight, or ‘caving to pressure to be thin.’ Keeping weight on is a struggle for me— especially when I’m under stress, and especially as I’ve gotten older. That’s the way my genes have decided to go, and things will change as time goes on, as does everything.

“SCARY SKINNY” is a tabloid fixture, the flip side to “WORST BEACH BODIES.” Female celebrities placed in the former category are depicted as unhealthy, fragile, in danger; their weights and eating habits are guessed at and picked apart by “weight guessing experts.” Emma Stone and Emma Stone’s doctor are the only people who know whether Emma Stone is healthy; the rest of us should just leave her alone.

Stone continues:

My great hope for us as young women is to start being kinder to ourselves so that we can be kinder to each other. To stop shaming ourselves and other people for things we don’t know the full story on — whether someone is too fat, too skinny, too short, too tall, too loud, too quiet, too anything. There’s a sense that we’re all ‘too’ something, and we’re all not enough… I hope we can be supportive of each other and try to really have each other’s backs, especially when we don’t know the whole story.

Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing put his hand on Kim Kardashian‘s abdomen, sparking rumors that she is pregnant. Every time a hand rests upon a famous woman’s stomach, her womb immediately houses a fertilized egg. It’s science. [Gossip Cop]

Rihanna had a wild after party following the Met Gala (obviously), and Anne Hathaway was being the life of it. According to an onlooker: “At one point, Hathaway grinded with Calvin Klein creative director Francisco Costa on the dance floor, while a cheering circle formed around her.” I hope this is the exact plot of the Princess Diaries sequel.
