And last night, the contestants on Drag Race had to create infomercials for RuPaul's album. Team Glamazon made an '80s themed clip, complete with neon colors, big hair, animal print and retro slang. Last night on RuPaul's Drag Race, the queens were split into teams of four and thrown into the WTF — kind of like the WWF, but with "Wrestling's Trashiest Fighters." Team Chad won, mostly because Chad Michaels and Madame LaQueer camped it up, playing the villain characters with gusto and looking like they were Cry-Baby and Hatchet Face's fellow Drapes from Turkey Point. Last night, RuPaul's Drag Race returned with season four and a brand new flock of queens. Ones to watch: The macabre Sharon Needles, who has a "meth look" and a Tammy Faye Bakker tattoo and spit up fake blood on the runway; Kenya Michaels, a diminutive diva with a stunningly beautiful face some queens deem "fishy" — aka too girly; and Jiggly Caliente, the "Asian plus-size Barbie" with swagger. The theme of the episode was "Rupocalypse," and there were guest appearances by drag zombies, Elvira and Shangela, among others. I'll be honest: I was rooting for my girl Alexis Mateo, because she seems so super sweet. And then, I had this vision that maybe Manila would win, because she has been so consistent. But of course, the winner is… Raja. Naturally. It seemed kind of obvious from the beginning that Raja was blowing the judges away with her high fashion sense and untouchable, frosty attitude. I spoke with Raja at the finale party last night, and she said: One of the most rewarding things about the show, for me, is getting to reach out to kids. Little sissy youth, little butch youth, little boys and girls who feel like they might be born in the wrong body. Kids who feel different, or get picked on. Having those kids write to me and email me — they're so cute! They're 13 years old, telling me how seeing me has allowed them to open up conversations with their families. Last night, each queen was asked, "Why do you deserve to be crowned America's Next Drag Superstar?" Yara Sofia bluntly answered, "Because I'm broke." Manila Luzon was more eloquent, speaking about her loving and supportive family, and the desire to spread that encouragement. Raja became tearful as she sobbed, "I would love to leave a legacy for all the little boys who are teased, who are afraid, who don't know how to express themselves creatively yet… It's okay to say 'fuck you.'" Guys, I love Alexis Mateo, I think she has a really pure heart. And Manila is hilarious and campy — my favorite kind of drag queen. But I think RuPaul decided, long ago, that Raja should win. After all, Ru's big hit was called "Supermodel." She loves a fierce runway bitch. Last night's episode saw the queens singing — not something most of them felt comfortable doing! It was the same song, over and over — RuPaul's "Superstar," but each contestant had a different version. Manila Luzon grooved to a disco cover; Alexis Mateo rapped her hip-hop track; Shangela's ditty was country; Yara Sofia warbled as a half-naked pop star and Carmen Carrera played a drugged and depressed reggae artist. The winner of the challenge? Raja, of course. Even though she didn't really evoke a drag queen, her punk performance impressed guest judges Jody Watley and Carmen Electra. It seems inevitable that Raja will be crowned winner of the show, but I think I might be team Manila now. She never fails to bring it.
