It seems pretty clear from this animal's deflated expression that spinning is pretty low on its list of favorite things to do, maybe right above "be dressed up in sports jerseys by master" and "vacuum cleaner wrestling." The DJ looks to have his fingers firmly in his dog's armpit, so all the poor thing is really doing is having someone poke its sensitive areas while its forepaw spasms every few seconds for no discernable reason. Of the three — three! — major pet commercials, not one will feature a kitty, which might be cause for concern if you're a lunatic or you adopted a legion of cats in the hopes of training them for movies and profiting off of their fame. A service dog named Danny went above and beyond the call of duty on Friday when his owner Bethe Bennett fell down and broke her leg. Unable to move, Bennett asked Danny to bring her the phone — "He ran back and forth a couple of times barking and finally jumped up and knocked the phone over and pushed it with his nose toward me." And that's not all. Bennett still needed to get her neighbors to unlock her house for the paramedics, so she asked Danny for "paper" — and he brought back the sheet with the neighbors' number on it (along with, to be fair, some other papers). Though once thought of exclusively for sad tweens with mean parents, fat camps have become increasingly de rigueur among children and adults alike. Now, with pet obesity rates on the rise, the fitness camp trend has spread to our canine companions, with doggie fat camps opening up all over the country. At these camps, dogs go through weigh-ins, regimented fitness routines and controlled diets much like a human would, although it's still debatable whether or not they get the coming-of-age experience that most camps have to offer. Here's some sad news to kick off your Monday. Uncle Chichi, toy poodle, West Village staple and arguably the world's oldest dog has passed away at the ripe old age of 25 or 26. The discrepancy in both Chichi's age and "World's Oldest" title comes from the fact that he was adopted from a Charleston animal shelter 24-years ago and lacks the paperwork and puppy photos needed to be an official world record holder. On Monday Pusuke, a Shiba mix who took Guinness World Records' title for oldest dog last year, died in Sakura, Japan. He was 26 years and eight months old. Lynn Jones, a baggage handler at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, was fired from her job after she refused to load a severely abused dog onto a plane. Jones says the hunting dog was covered with sores and TSA agents couldn't get it to stand up to be X-rayed. "Everyone who saw it, the TSA people, the Airport Police officers, the girls at the ticket counter, was concerned," says Jones. "The dog was so weak and torn up. Last week about 40 male beagles raised in a European lab that conducted testing on animals arrived in Los Angeles to be prepared for adoption by Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME). The organization's Beagle Freedom Project says the breed is popular with labs due to their "friendly, docile, trusting, forgiving, people-pleasing personalities," and these 4 to 7-year-old dogs were kept in isolated cages from birth. This is the group's biggest rescue so far, but in case you're having trouble picturing the adorableness we're dealing with, check out the video of dogs ARME saved from a similar situation this summer.
