When Diane Schroer left the military, she left it as a former Army Special Forces commander with experience in terrorism issues — and as a man named David. After accepting a job with the Library of Congress in her field, she informed her bosses that when she started, she would be Diane, so they fired her. In a landmark decision, Judge James Robinson of the Federal District Court ruled that doing so violated Diane's rights against sexual discrimination, since the only difference between the man they hired and the woman they fired was her gender.
