In an interview with Ellen Degeneres Tuesday, Dax Shepard said that the sloth he got to surprise his now-wife Kristen Bell — and prompted Bell's legendary meltdown — for her 31st birthday "started a sloth industry," implying that before he and Kristen were into sloths, sloths were hardly the animal darlings they are now. A bold claim, sir.
"At that time, it was nearly impossible to procure a sloth," Shepard explained. 'They're not on every corner like they are today. There were like two guys in the country that had access to a sloth and they were very particular about what kind of homeowners insurance you have in case they attack somebody, who I guess would have to be in a coma to not be able to avoid getting attacked by a sloth." Then he and Ellen mimed a sloth attack. It was slow.
