David Goldberg, CEO of SurveyMonkey and husband of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, passed away suddenly at age 47. His brother Robert Goldberg announced the tragic news via Facebook, asking for those who knew David to share memories and photos of him to his profile in lieu of donations. The cause of death, which occurred on Friday evening, has not yet been disclosed.

According to SurveyMonkey’s team bio page, Goldberg had joined the company in 2009. In 1994, he founded LAUNCH, a media company which was later acquired by Yahoo!. He then served as Yahoo! Music’s Vice President and General Manager for six years. Billboard named him one of digital music’s top power players in 2006.

“Dave is my best friend, closest advisor, dedicated coparent, and the love of my life, wrote Sandberg in her 2013 New York Times bestseller Lean In. “He supported me every step of the way, as he always does, with patience, great insight, humor, and love.” He mirrored her appreciation in a 2012 Bloomberg article saying, “My closest adviser is my wife. It’s nice to have one of the smartest people in business as your life partner, and someone you have dinner with and breakfast with.” Goldberg and Sandberg were married in 2004 and have two children.
