Today Charla Nash, who was mauled by a friend’s chimpanzee two years ago, revealed the results of the face transplant surgery she had in May. Nash is only the third person in the U.S. to undergo an full face transplant, and so far she’s making amazing progress. She also had a double hand transplant, but doctors had to remove the hands due to complications from pneumonia.

Nash said in a statement:

“I will now be able to do things I once took for granted. I will be able to smell. I will be able to eat normally. I will no longer be disfigured. I will have lips and will speak clearly once again. I will be able to kiss and hug loved ones. I am tremendously grateful to the donor and her family.”
