Adorable inter-species adoption strikes again: Jane Etheridge, an Englishwoman from Middleton, says that the lone surviving chick from her hen's recent batch of 14 babes (a fox and untimely death claimed the other 13) was recently adopted by her cat, Snowy. Etheridge says that Snowy cleans and cares for the chick, now named Gladys, and that Gladys loves to play with her adopted dad: "[Gladys] comes in and bounces up and down in front of Snowy and he just stands there and takes it and puts his arm around her," says Etheridge, adding: "They are the best of friends, very much so." We couldn't find photographic evidence of Gladys and Snowy's friendship, but we hope this other cat-chick adoption will suffice. [UPI] More »

It's been a few months since Heinz pulled its "gay kiss" mayonnaise ad and now, just to prove to the world that they like chicks, they have come up with a new ad showing chicken and potatoes arranged to look like a seductive, voluptuous woman. Appetizing, no? We can just imagine the cracks made over at Heinz HQ over this ad: "Get a load of the taters on that one!" Last week in Temecula, California, workers at McDonald's successfully captured a chicken that had been giving patrons the evil eye as they tried to order nuggets. Workers lured the bird with bits of bun from atop the drive-through window box and sent it to live out its days with other chickens. I, Megan, have experience with chickens: My one and only pet, Nugget (pictured here atop my computer in 1997). So I believe that the hen wasn't trying to keep Temeculans from eating its relatives, it was probably just hungry. Nugget was a cannibal and his favorite food was fried chicken — in fact, he could almost eat his own weight in Chicken McNuggets and insisted on trying. RIP Nugget.
