Catfish Gets Suspended Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Nev Schulman

MTV has suspended production of Catfish, the world’s most depressing dating show, after host Nev Schulman—known for his woke elevator selfies and punching a woman in the face while he was a student at Sarah Lawrence—was accused of sexual misconduct.

An MTV spokesperson told the Daily Beast, “We take these allegations very seriously. We’re working with Critical Content, our third-party production company, to conduct a thorough investigation.”

Schulman was the subject of the original Catfish documentary, which told the story of his online relationship with a woman who turned out to be a fictional persona. The television show Catfish follows Schulman and co-host Max Joseph as they help others investigate the veracity of the people with whom they’ve formed online romantic relationships.

In 2014, after graphic security footage revealed pro football player Ray Rice physically abusing his wife in an elevator, Schulman published a widely mocked and now deleted tweet that read, “Cowards make me sick. Real men show patience & honor. This elevator is abuse free. #RESPECT.” It was accompanied by a photo of himself, hand over heart, in an elevator that does indeed appear abuse free at the moment.

The tweet was followed by further blow-back after it was reported that Schulman was arrested while attending Sarah Lawrence College for punching a woman at a school event. He claimed it was self defense (the woman assaulted says otherwise) and was eventually expelled from school.

More recently, Schulman has garnered publicity for staring with awe into the depths of his pregnant wife’s vagina and persisting as the weeniest of the 2 Catfish hosts. We’ll update with details as they come.

Update (5/17/18, 3:20pm): Allegations against Schulman were made by Ayissha Morgan, who appeared on Catfish in 2015, in two videos posted to YouTube video posted on May 12 and 15. In them, Morgan claims that Schulman came onto her at every break while shooting her episode, probing her about her sexuality (Morgan is a lesbian) and asking her if she’s really bisexual. Later, Morgan says he propositioned her in his hotel room.

In a statement provided by his publicist to the Daily Beast, Schulman says, “The behavior described in this video did not happen and I’m fortunate that there are a number of former colleagues who were present during this time period who are willing to speak up with the truth. I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions—but these claims are false.”
