Brittney Griner, Glory Johnson-Griner Announce New Baby On the Way

WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson-Griner are expecting a new baby, just weeks after marrying atop a mountain in Phoenix, Arizona.

Johnson-Griner announced the new family member on the way via Instagram and a formal statement, according to People.

“It has always been a dream of mine to start a family with someone I love,” Johnson said in a statement released by the team ahead of the Shock’s home opener on Friday.
“Being a professional athlete that plays year-round, there is never a perfect time to get pregnant without putting my career on hold. The entire process, from learning our fertility options, to making sacrifices necessary nine months before the child is born, is merely preparing me to become a great wife and an even better mother.”
“Right now, I not only have my health to worry about, but also the health of this little one resting inside of me. Rest assured I will be back next season, stronger and more ready to play than ever!”

Johnson’s team, the Tulsa Shock, announced that she would be out for the 2015 season via Twitter on Thursday. Griner plays for the Phoenix Mercury.

The ballers made headlines just one month before their nuptials when police responded to a 911 call at the couple’s home where they were both arrested for disorderly conduct and assault. As a result, the ladies were each suspended for seven games by the WNBA, though Johnson’s lawyer suggested to Sports Illustrated that she was the target of Griner’s actions.
