'Fat Monkey' Sculpture Is Made From 10,000 Pairs Of Flip Flops

"Macaco Gordo" — or "The Fat Monkey" in English — is a 45-foot long, florescent-colored monkey that resides in the middle of a park in Sao Paolo, Brazil. This monkey statue is different, though, because he isn't made from bronze, stone, or even plaster of paris — he's made from 10,000 pairs of flip flops. The installation comes from the mind of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who enlisted the help of local art students to create the sculpture. More »

Doctor Sends Live Woman To The Morgue

After suffering two strokes, Rosa Celestrino de Assis of Brazil was declared dead by her doctor and sent to the morgue. She spent two hours in a body bag before anyone noticed she was still alive. "I went to give my mom one last hug, and I could feel that she was breathing. I screamed out — my mom is alive! And they all looked at me like I was crazy," says her daughter, Rosangela Celestrino. "Not only did I have to go collect my mom from a cold storage drawer at the morgue, but when I got there, I find her still breathing." Rosa was put back on life support, and presumably her doctor will check his patients' vital signs more closely in the future. More »

Sao Paulo May Hold Highly-Necessary Heterosexual Pride Day

If the mayor of Sao Paulo, Brazil signs legislation adopted by the city council, the city will start celebrating Heterosexual Pride Day every year in December. Carlos Apolinario, who authored the legislation, explains that it's "not anti-gay but a protest against the privileges the gay community enjoys." Apolinario is upset that the city's huge Gay Pride parade is held on a bigger street than the March for Jesus, but this kind of pettiness doesn't mean he doesn't respect homosexuals. He says, "I have no trouble coexisting with gays as long as their behavior is normal." More »

She went to investigate and realized he was patting a 5-foot alligator, which had been washed into her home by the high water.
