Courtney Love has gone on the attack after a new e-book, Courtney Comes Clean, charged that her hoarding habits were responsible for the death of her daughter Frances Bean Cobain's cat. And, as usual, she's doing her lashing out via Twitter in her famous nonsensical style. The cat killing allegations arose during the time that Frances was obtaining a restraining order against her, and the e-book relied on some of the documents presented in support of the order. They included details about the hoarding and also a story about how her presecription pills—which she was allegedly addicted to at the time—were scattered around and ended up killing Courtney's dog. Houston's hairdresser and bodyguard were the first to find the singer with her face underwater in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton where she was staying. Details are still scant, but, with typical journalistic stoicism, TMZ is already reporting that a mélange of Xanax and alcohol probably caused Houston to lose consciousness and drown in the tub. With ironic cruelty, fate determined that as members from the music community gathered at the Beverly Hilton to celebrate another year in mediocre music, they would mingle with the Los Angeles County paramedics transporting Houston's body from her hotel room to the coroner's office for an autopsy. Though Houston was plagued by years of drug abuse and a tumultuous 14-year marriage to Bobby Brown, she became the most-honored female singer of all time over her 25-year career, collecting more than 400 awards — including 6 Grammys and 30 Billboard Awards — and selling more than 170 million albums worldwide. She had a movie career that includes the VH1 go-to Saturday afternoon movie, The Bodyguard, as well as the more respectable and awesomely titled Waiting to Exhale. Over on the gossip blog "A Socialite's Life," editors are asking if Paris Hilton is "pulling a Yoko" with her new relationship to Good Charlotte's Benji Madden. First off, mentioning Benji Madden and John Lennon in the same sentence is borderline blasphemous. But even more gratingly, for years "Yoko" has been a shorthand for a "controlling" girlfriend or wife whose association with a rock star broke up a band and ruined everything. Not only is the maligning of Yoko is sexist, since it's not really her fault that the Beatles dissolved, it needs to be said that women aren't the only significant others who muck up creative production. Which is why I think there needs to be a male "Yoko" equivalent. Whoever was in charge of casting for CMT's reality show Gone Country is a genius for casting Bobby Brown. While he isn't able to recreate the magic that was Being Bobby Brown — obviously due to the absence of sidekick/estranged-spouse Whitney Houston — he still manages to shock and offend in a myriad of other ways. On the most recent episode of GC, Bobby got too drunk to participate in a club appearance for which the group competed in games like "The Toilet Seat Toss." But in keeping with that potty theme, he decided to fart on Carnie Wilson (who described it as a "snappy, wet ripper") and then later almost urinated all over the bedroom he shares with Dee Snider while walking in his sleep. If you're not a regular viewer of Country Music Television, then you probably missed the new reality series Gone Country. The show ispretty much The Surreal Life, except, instead of making has-beens live in a mansion together, the has-beens have to live in a mansion together and compete against one another to see who will make the best country music star. Why? Who knows! But the cast is pretty amazing: Cisco (as in "Thong Song"), Dee Snyder, Carnie Wilson, Diana DeGarmo (American Idol reject), Maureen McCormick, Julio Iglesias Jr., and Bobby Brown! Maureen and Bobby hit it off on the first day, and now they're totally BFF, and, although first it seemed odd that Marcia Brady and the ex-Mr. Whitney Houston would be fast friends, Maureen has a little history riding the white pony, so they have more in common than one would think. Anyway, if you missed the episode, don't worry, because MTV2 and VH1 will be rerunning the crap out of it. Oh, and, of course, there's a clip above. More »
