Beauty Pageant Runner-Up Yanks Crown Off Winner's Head, Has No Regrets

Brazilian beauty queen Sheislane Hayalla knows her value and isn’t about to graciously accept second place like a goddamn chump.

After being named runner-up in the Miss Amazonas 2015 pageant on Friday, Hayalla, unsatisfied with the results, pulled the crown off winner Carolina Toledo’s head, threw it to the ground and stormed off stage. Her fellow competitors responded with shock and/or by continuing to smile blandly and clap.

“I do not accept injustice,” Hayalla wrote on Facebook, following the filmed event:

“…and will never let something go unpunished, I wanted to express my disapproval of the actions in the preparations for Miss Amazonas 2015. I do not regret having protested. I believe I have planted change in this great contest. I wanted something clean and honest.”

Toledo, who will go on to compete in the Miss Brazil pageant (so much for planting change in the contest, eh, Sheislane?), has not responded directly to Hayalla’s bold political statement and has only offered this comment: “This is an unbelievable feeling. I don’t have words to explain the way I feel.”

Don’t know how to say this in Portuguese, but it seems that something like, “I won a dumb contest and a crazy person yanked the crown off my head” would explain it rather well.
