The Morning Sob: Watch Dogs Rescued From A Lab See Sunlight For The First Time

Last week about 40 male beagles raised in a European lab that conducted testing on animals arrived in Los Angeles to be prepared for adoption by Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME). The organization's Beagle Freedom Project says the breed is popular with labs due to their "friendly, docile, trusting, forgiving, people-pleasing personalities," and these 4 to 7-year-old dogs were kept in isolated cages from birth. Of the many reasons why I love Martha Stewart, her obsessive and fanatic love of animals is surely near the top of the list. Today she had on Uno, the adorable, 3-year old beagle who won Best In Show last night at the Westminster Dog Show. [I was at a bar watching this 'lil guy "collect" his trophy, and let me tell you: Barflies CHEERED. -Ed.] What we learned: Uno is from South Carolina and continues to love to "talk"... and Martha was more than glad to talk right back to him. Uno, a 15-inch-long beagle, proved his puppy prowess by taking home the top honors at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show last night. Despite the breed's overwhelming popularity, this is the first time a beagle has taken the competition. "With fans calling out his name and clapping, he soaked in the cheers as he walked around the ring.
