Baltimore to Pay Freddie Gray's Family $6.4 Million

Latest

Just over four months after Freddie Gray was killed in police custody in April, sparking riots all across Baltimore, his family has reached a $6.4 million wrongful death settlement with the city.

The deal is awaiting approval by the city’s Board of Estimates, which controls Baltimore’s budget, according to the Washington Post. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is planning to meet with the board on Wednesday.

Last week, a Maryland judge ruled that each of the six officers charged in the murder of Freddie Gray would have separate trials. The judge has yet to decide whether the proceedings will be held in Baltimore or moved elsewhere.

Gray was arrested on April 12 and died later from injuries he sustained during a “rough ride,” a brutal and storied practice of Baltimore police.
