Awkward Black Girl Coming to Network TV (Sorta!)

Latest

She’s been churning out episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Scandal, and this afternoon, Shonda Rhimes tweeted, “Shondaland has been busy!” Because her production company just sold a comedy to ABC called I Hate La Dudes, from writer Issa Rae, whom you all know from The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl!!! YES!

According to Deadline Hollywood:

I Hate La Dudes centers on an aspiring journalist, new to Los Angeles, who becomes the lone female voice on a budding, male-driven Internet talk show, while learning to decode the often humiliating and exasperating rules of the LA dating scene. Rae, repped by UTA, 3 Arts and John Meigs, is writing/co-executive producing. Expanding into comedy has been a major priority for Shondaland which established its brand in drama.

Which means that while Rae will have a hand in the show, it is not ABG and she might not be the star. Still! Looking forward to it.

Shondaland also sold another project, The Mix, which is an hour-long dramedy about “the public and not so private lives of five very different women” who are hosts of an influential morning talk show reminiscent of The View. Yaw for more roles for women on TV. And unlike the chicks on Modern Family, these ladies have jobs. Modern.
