Argentinian Model Sues Google Over Porn Site Search Results

Latest

Argentinian model and TV personality Belén Rodríguez is embroiled in a battle against Google and Yahoo over search results that link her name to pornographic sites that have used older photos of her without permission. She was already rewarded a sum of $15,000 (which was reduced to $6,200) after she filed legal action in 2006, but she is seeking further damages and wants her name unlinked to the porn sites. Via CNN:

“They have ruined my life and now say that what I’m asking for is censorship? It suits them, but not me. Truthfully for me, having to explain every day that I am not a prostitute is a daily complication.”

None of the creators of the content itself, the source of the issue, were called in to testify, and Google stated that “search engines are neutral platforms that do not create nor control content on the web.”

The Argentinian Supreme Court will be making a decision on the case within the next several weeks.
