Alabama Professor Accused Of Campus Rampage Also Fatally Shot Brother In 1986; Police Now Investigating

Dr. Amy Bishop, the University of Alabama-Huntsville professor accused of killing three fellow faculty members last night, was involved in the fatal shooting of her brother over twenty years ago; it was deemed an accident—but police are investigating.

According to the Boston Globe, Bishop shot her 18-year-old brother in 1986, and at the time, police believed it was an accidental shooting, though Bishop’s recent rampage has brought the case back into the spotlight, and according to Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier, who noted that records from the cast had gone missing, “I don’t want to use the word ‘coverup,’ but this does not look good.”

Bishop was arrested last night after allegedly killing three of her co-workers during a faculty meeting; a Harvard-educated neuroscientist, she was reportedly upset that she’d been denied tenure at the university. According to The Telegraph, when asked what had happened during the rampage by a reporter, Bishop replied: “It didn’t happen. … They are still alive.”
