Were you aware that we live in a world in which Blake Lively has been on the cover of Vogue twice while Meryl Streep hasn't made a single appearance? Well, no more. Vogue has released the cover of its January issue, which features Streep (along with some groundbreaking jacket-wearing methods). Inside the 62-year-old says that when she was offered three different witch roles after turning 40, she felt it meant older women were "grotesque on some level" and told her husband, "It's over." The Associated Press notes that she "jokes in the magazine she's the 'oldest person'" to appear on the cover, but it's true. Priscilla Presley was 59 when she posed for the magazine in 2004, but she shared the cover with her daughter and granddaughter. Streep has appeared in international editions of Vogue, but in 2010 the average age of cover models in the American magazine was only 33. More »

Well isn't this refreshing? Rather than lecturing us on the benefits of eating vegetables and doing vigorous workouts, Margaret Ellen Moores of Newfoundland says she's reached the age of 106 thanks to eating junk food and enjoying herself. Her daughter said at her birthday party this weekend, "She loves her sweets. She never drank water in her life ... [She loves] her salt beef, the same old-time meals as ever she had … She loves her pizza and French fries now. So it's not her diet is it?" When asked about the secret to her longevity, Moores said, "Good times I guess, when I got old. I didn't have them when I was young ... [I] got so fond of them, I couldn't let them go." More »

If you're suffering from a case of Phelps phatigue, we nominate Dara Torres for your next aquatic object of affection. At 41, Torres became the oldest swimmer to win an Olympic silver medal in Sunday's 50-meter freestyle. In the clip above, Torres comes in just a hundredth of a second behind German Britta Steffen, 24, (the same margin Phelps won by). With a 24.07 second finish, she still set a new American record and a personal best. The young women swimming with Torres say they are inspired not just by her age, but by the fact that she has a two-year-old daughter. “Most of us girls, we have to stop our sport so we can start a family, but for her to have a family and still get back in and win the silver medal is just absolutely incredible,” said American Cate Campbell, 16, who finished after Torres for the bronze.
