Adult film actress Amber Rayne died in her sleep over the weekend, AVN reports. Rayne, 31, was one of several high profile adult actresses who accused James Deen of sexual assault over the winter. Rayne spent over a decade in the adult industry.
AVN reports that while Rayne is said to have died in her sleep, the exact cause of death is not known. A Detroit native, she had more than 500 film credits to her name. She announced in April 2015 that she planned to retire from the industry; Rayne also owned a horse farm and taught riding. She recently tweeted a sad farewell to a favorite horse:
Rayne told The Daily Beast in December that Deen violently sexually assaulted her on set, causing her to bleed so heavily from her rectum that she was unable to finish a scene.
Numerous other performers expressed shock and sadness at her passing, including Deen’s ex-girlfriend Stoya, who accused him of rape and abuse.
The Daily Mail is also taking heat for the manner in which they chose to headline their report on her death, by referring to Rayne as an unnamed “porn star” who accused “adult actor” James Deen of rape:
