80-Year Old Grandma Becomes Priest Despite Law Saying She Can't

Latest

The Catholic Church is infamous for telling women what they can and can’t do with their bodies—and also bans them from taking clergy roles, aside from becoming nuns. But an awesome, 80-year old grandma named Rita Lucey is all, ‘Fuck that, I want to be a priest so I’m going to become one, anyway,’ and joined the priesthood on Saturday.

Of course, the Vatican has rejected Lucey’s ordination, which took place inside a Florida Unity church, a denomination that promotes Christianity but has no direct ties to the Catholic Church. Lucey, who joins 160 other women in the United States in becoming priests despite not being officially recognized as such by the Catholic Church, calls it an “injustice” that women are not treated equally within the religion.
