Like with most Ryan Murphy productions, American Horror Story can be a little problematic with its treatment of its female characters, but, at the end of the day, one very important fact remains — this show has some of the meatiest roles for women on television. It's a real actress showcase as has been repeatedly demonstrated in the performances of Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe. And just in case you needed more evidence on the kind of talent that this show attracts, Kathy Bates is now getting in on the action.
Bates is in the process of wrapping up a deal to join American Horror Story's third season, which, according to Murphy, will be more historical, though set in modern times. He also promises that it will be funnier (more in the vein of the first season than the second) and will focus on witches. Bates reportedly will play Jessica Lange's best friend-turned-enemy and, I don't know about you, but I cannot wait to see these two badass bitches act against each other.
