Marilyn Monroe Might Have Been a Dirty Sexy CommieS

Much to the excitement of your sexually frustrated, conspiracy theorist uncle, the FBI has recently found (sure) and reissued (doctored) their previously missing (uh-huh) files on beautiful film actress/dead person Marilyn Monroe. While the other FBI files on Monroe have been heavily redacted, the newest release is supposedly unedited.

While the FBI files don't release any new information about her death (what do you need to know that they didn't tell you on Smash?), they do reveal that Marilyn was deeply involved with communism at the height of the Red Scare. And by deeply involved, I mean that she had a singular friend who was an outspoken communist, much to the concern and hysteria of her other acquaintances.

From the AP:

The records reveal that some in Monroe's inner circle were concerned about her association with Frederick Vanderbilt Field, who was disinherited from his wealthy family over his leftist views.

A trip to Mexico earlier that year to shop for furniture brought Monroe in contact with Field, who was living in the country with his wife in self-imposed exile. Informants reported to the FBI that a "mutual infatuation" had developed between Field and Monroe, which caused concern among some in her inner circle, including her therapist, the files state.

Furniture? Mexico? Mutual infatuation? Well, if that doesn't say "communism," I don't know what does. (Also, what is communism?)

Field also discussed Monroe's time with him and his wife in his autobiography "From Right to Left," writing:

She talked mostly about herself and some of the people who had been or still were important to her. She told us about her strong feelings for civil rights, for black equality, as well as her admiration for what was being done in China, her anger at red-baiting and McCarthyism and her hatred of (FBI director) J. Edgar Hoover.

Your conspiracy theorist uncle and I see a pattern here and that pattern is that Marilyn Monroe had some progressive, albiet short-sighted views on politics and equality. Let the broad rest in peace.

Marilyn Monroe, communist?
