Louis Vuitton, for the Pop-Art Loving Sixties Mod in You (and Your Plus One)

It seems like Marc Jacobs had fun with the Spring 2013 collection he presented for Louis Vuitton yesterday in Paris. There were giant escalators, bright colors, mod checkers and models walking two by two.

This checker pattern is a clever reinvention of the signature LV Damier print. People have been copying LV since 1854; the Damier Canvas pattern was created in 1888 by Louis Vuitton Malletier himself, to stop copycats. Ironic. In any case, blown up and done in collarless, simply shaped clothes with sharply contrasting colors, the checkers take on a Mod vibe: Pick up the Specials on vinyl and then hop on your Vespa.

The yellow! Yellow for Spring 2013, guys. So optimistic. Also, that square bag is going to FLY off the shelves.

I did the whole dressing-to-compliment your BFF thing in high school, and it was actually kind of fun. Maybe time to bring it back?

Seeing double.

There were hemlines both long and short, as well as trousers. But no fussy frills or ruffles or extraneous doodads: Sleek, clean lines.

Bonus: This is what the collection made me think of — Rita Pavone doing her hit “Geghegè” on Italian TV circa 1965 (or possibly ’66). Mod!
