Mariah Carey Tells Barbara Walters That Nicki Minaj Threatened Her Life

Latest

Evidently, Babs and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers. The singer spoke exclusively with The View co-host—who says the pair are “good friends”—this morning about the explosive fight she got in with fellow American Idol judge Nicki Minaj earlier this week. Walters took notes during the convo and read them on live TV, revealing that what really upset Carey about the incident is that Minaj allegedly said, “If I had a gun I would shoot that fucking bitch!”

Carey has since hired extra security and says that although she will carry on with her judging duties, she does not feel “emotionally comfortable” working with Minaj, who she says is “unpredictable.” Walters, who is firmly on Team Mariah, says that the incident is not a ploy for ratings, which supports reports on TMZ about how the outburst genuinely upset American Idol producers.

But that isn’t stopping the Cannon-Carey family from taking whatever opportunities they can to speak to the press about the fracas. When stopping by Access Hollywood on Wednesday, Carey’s husband Nick Cannon addressed the feud and went to bat for Carey, saying, “I mean we all have our thoughts. I feel like [the feud is] taking away what the quality of what Idol is all about. My wife is the strongest, classiest woman I know, so she signed up to help people accomplish their dreams.”
