SNL Casts Two New Women, No New People of Color

Latest

SNL has added three new faces to the cast and — what do you know — two of those faces are attached to women. Tim Robinson, Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant (who stars in the video above) will all be appearing as featured players in the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live, premiering this Saturday. All three come out of Chicago.

While it’s always exciting to see up and coming talent get a shot — a shot that I’m sure is well-deserved — would it have killed Lorne Michael’s to hire another comedienne of color? (Current player Nasim Pedrad is Iranian American and Maya Rudolph, who left the show in 2007, is the most recent cast member with any African American decent.) Maybe he just really likes seeing Keenan Thompson in drag?
