In the days after letting it slip that he believes that rape victims shouldn't be allowed to have abortions because if it's a "legitimate rape," the female body has ways to "shut that whole thing down," Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin bragged that even though he's pretty much a human-shaped bag of biohazardous garbage, Missouri voters still supported him over sitting Senator Claire McCaskill by one precious point. This was clearly evidence, he claimed, that God and the people of Missouri want him to stay in the race. Well, if that's the case, Akin may want to consider firing his divine advisor — the newest poll shows that Akin has fallen behind Claire McCaskill. By a lot.
The newest Rasmussen poll shows that McCaskill has shot from 3 points behind Akin to a whopping 10 points ahead of him, and it appears that the entire 13-point swing can be attributed to Akin's reprehensible views on sexual assault. Politico is reporting that 48% of Missouri voters support McCaskill, while only 38% are still think Akin is AOK. God may not be the very best political strategist (remember when He told Michele Bachmann to run for President?), but at least the people of Missouri can smell bullshit — the 62% of them who aren't planning on voting for Akin can, at least.
I'd make a joke about how when a politician says something legitimately offensive, the body politic has ways of shutting that whole thing down, but that's already getting tired. So, in honor of Akin's floundering poll numbers, let's dust off an oldie: Todd Akin, Imma let you finish, but Clayton Williams had the most satisfying misogynist dickhead-based political implosion of all time. OF ALL TIME.
