McDonalds's Apple Slices Recalled Because They're Crawling with Disease

Neat! Remember when everyone went gaga about calories and health and so all the fast food chains scrambled to invent some hella gross wilty cheese-covered "salads" and gave kids the option of having apples and walnuts instead of fries with their 8,000-calorie cheeseburgers? (Health crisis solved!) Well, turns out choosing apple slices instead of fries at McDonalds or Burger King WILL totally help you lose weight.

Because of the bacterial diarrhea.

Ready Pac foods, which sells apples to fast food chains, supermarkets, and convenience stores in 36 states, is recalling "293,488 cases and 296,224 individually distributed units" of products containing its apples, because of possible listeria contamination.

When consumers eats foods contaminated with the bacterium listeria monocytogenes, they can get a serious infection called listeriosis. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, headache, stiff neck, confusion and convulsions.

The recall by Ready Pac came after listeria monocytogenes was found on equipment used by one of its subsidiaries, Missa Bay, based in Swedesboro, N.J. Ready Pac said no illnesses have yet been reported.

So for the moment, if you're going to eat mystery produce from massive loosely regulated agribusiness conglomerates, maybe stick to the deep-fried stuff. You know, for your health!
