22-year-old Mindy Meyer — a lifelong Flatbush resident, Orthodox Jew, and self-proclaimed Diva — says she's the first young woman in the history of New York to run for New York State Senate, as a candidate for both the Republican and Conservative party lines. "I can tell you one thing, I have no experience in corruption," she says on her website. "This is how politics has to change. There is always corruption, but I have the intention to follow my values and ensure that none of what happens in my district is corrupt."
There's just one little problem — her blinged-out, blindingly pink website, which plays a MIDI version of LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" (Her tagline is "I'm Senator And I Know It") might not inspire confidence among her constituency. Quick, someone tell Mindy that tweens aren't allowed to vote!
Campaign manager Avrahom Rosenberg told us that we weren't the first people to assume that Mindy's campaign is a joke based on her rather unorthodox website.
"We figured the unusual [website] would be a good way of getting media attention, since she's so young," Rosenberg told us. "There's a chance people won't take her seriously, but we hope we'll be able to promote her message and that people will see what she really has to say."
Visit her "Issues" page and you'll see that she's focused on education reform and repealing stop and frisk — and that she's a Hunger Games fan.
But Mindy really won us over with this photo. Look at her hanging out with all of her friends! (Or should we say "holding court"?) We're not sure if these guys know exactly why they're posing with the Diva of the District, but we will say one thing — girl knows the value of personal branding.
