Jennifer Grey Was Still Reeling From Infamous Matthew Broderick Car Crash On the 1987 Red Carpet for Dirty Dancing

In honor of the upcoming 25th anniversary of Dirty Dancing, low-fat dairy product company Skinny Cow is screening the film in venues across the country with star Jennifer Grey in tow.

The Ferris Bueller's Day Off actress, who's basically been out of the public eye other than a winning stint on Dancing With The Stars, talked to CNN about the fatal Ireland car crash she was in with then-boyfriend Matthew Broderick just days before the film's release, killing a mother and daughter:

That movie's about a loss of innocence, and I feel like when that movie came out, 6 days before, I was in a car crash where a mother and daughter were killed, and I feel like my life changed, and that was a loss of my innocence. We all have different little windows into the possibility of what life can be, and the joy that life can have, and I look at [red carpet footage of herself from that time] and I look so in shock... so, kind of, checked out. And I'm such a different person now.

It's worth noting that the experience didn't stop Broderick from filming a Superbowl Honda commercial this year, which could be considered suuuuuper tasteless under the circumstances.

Grey also discussed her decision to appear on Dancing With The Stars in 2010 despite her fear that people would think she'd gotten rusty:

I realized when [co-star Patrick Swayze died]—and I had just gotten thyroid cancer myself—I thought, 'What are we doing here?' Why are we letting fear dictate what we do and don't do? If I love to dance, why would I stop dancing because I was in a movie about that?'
