I'm sorry, but we need to talk about your celebrity boyfriend Joseph Gordon-Levitt. During a Comic Con panel for his upcoming movie Looper, JGL was asked this seemingly innocuous question by an audience member: What was it like to work with costar Emily Blunt? Here was his answer:
"She's funny … and let's face it, most pretty girls aren't funny."
Oh, Joe. Why you gotta be like that? It's not as though women in comedy haven't weathered enough these past few weeks (months, years, forever) without Joseph Gordon-Levitt piling on with an opinion as tired and Hitchens-esque as this one.
To the boy's credit, he's not entirely wrong. Pretty women are rarely funny, with, of course, the exception of Emily Blunt. And Aisha Tyler. And Olivia Wilde and Nasim Pedrad. And Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Silverman, Whitney Cummings, Margaret Cho, Ellie Kemper, Jenny Slate, Kelly Oxford (who is a former model), Marina Franklin, Natasha Leggero and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's own friend and former co-star Zooey Deschanel. But, other than that, yeah, no pretty funny women at all.
Ironically, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, himself a pretty face, hasn't made a good joke since wearing this haircut in public for several years of the '90s.
[UPDATE] Joseph Gordon Levitt has issued a very awkward, but sincere-seeming apology. Your vagina can breathe a sigh of relief.
