Today in unsolicited uterus updates: Carla Bruni went out in public wearing sweat pants, and now there's gossip that she's pregnant. Bruni, who tends to favor luxury labels like Christian Dior, has been dressing more casually lately — maybe because she and Nicolas Sarkozy have an eight-month-old in the house? But French tabloid mag Closer says Bruni is definitely pregnant, and that her change in clothing style and "extra weight" are evidence:
For several weeks people have been asking why she has not been able to lose the extra weight gained with her last pregnancy, to return to that allure that Bruni has always possessed. Everyone was a little dumbfounded by her baggy, shapeless clothes, and her newfound preference for appearing in public in sweatpants.
But we can now reveal that Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is pregnant again...And with her stomach looking ever more round, she can no longer hide it. She clearly wants to nurture this pregnancy with the utmost care, because, like the last one, it is later in life so all the riskier. She has therefore been advised to take as much rest as possible. We wondered what the Sarkozys would do with themselves after leaving office, and now we know — play happy families!
If she is pregnant, Bruni likely won't be making any official announcements anytime soon. With her baby daughter Giulia, she didn't comment on anything related to the pregnancy up to and including the birth.
People claiming to be members of Bruni's "entourage" have already told Gala and Voici that the rumor is false. "Carla Bruni will not deny it officially, but I can tell you she is not pregnant," says one "friend." "She's breastfeeding her daughter, and she's starting to lose the weight. To write that she is pregnant? No."
According to our sources, not only is the former First Lady not pregnant with her third child, she is furious and humiliated by the idea that such a rumor would take hold because of her difficulty in getting back into her pre-baby shape immediately. Unlike Victoria Beckham, Mariah Carey, Miranda Kerr and Beyoncé, who lost their kilos just weeks after giving birth, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy — like many women — is taking (a little) more time. But no, she is not pregnant.
Supermodel Elle MacPherson will not be returning as the host of NBC's little-watched reality show Fashion Star when it comes back for a second season. - Daphne Guinness was very pleased with her Christie's auction, which raised some £476,800 for the Isabella Blow Foundation, which benefits emerging U.K. designers and mental health research. (Blow, a close friend of Guinness, was a well-known fashion editor who committed suicide in 2007 after years suffering from depression.) "I should have put more in the sale," said the heiress. "This auction was the culmination of a plan, the completion of a circle. I wanted to celebrate Isabella — she was one of the most interesting funny people I have ever known. And I feel so great that all of these things will go on to have lives with other people. There has to be a certain flow to life — you can't hang on to things. The sale was so freeing." Guinness continued, "I really hope the foundation can help students and people who are struggling with mental illness. - In the wake of yesterday's Supreme Court decision confirming the legality of the Affordable Care Act, the National Retail Federation and the Retail Industry Leaders Association renewed their opposition to the act and indicated they hope to "redouble" their efforts to lobby Congress to repeal it. Specifically, large retailers are unhappy that companies with more than 50 full-time employees will have to offer them affordable health insurance by 2014, defined as health insurance costing less than 9.5% of that employee's family income:
Under the employer mandate, retailers with more than 50 full-time employees who don't offer insurance to their full-time workers will face a $2,000 penalty per full-time employee after the first 30 such workers.
If a company offers "unaffordable" insurance to workers, defined as a plan costing an employee more than 9.5 percent of the individual's family income, then the employer will be slapped with a $3,000 fine for each such employee. If the cost exceeds 8 percent of the individual employee's family income, that individual may opt out of the employer's plan, taking the employer contribution with him.

- Dov Charney says that American Apparel could realize revenues of $600 million this year, which would make 2012 the company's highest-grossing year yet. (Since its peak in 2009, which saw revenues of $558.7 million, the chain has suffered through prolonged contractions in its sales and has several times teetered on the brink of bankruptcy when it has been unable to meet its $140+ million debt obligations.) One such company is San Francisco-based Everlane, which sells U.S.-made cotton t-shirts online for $15, along with pants, bags, belts, and tops. Selection is intentionally limited.
